The pursuit of THE sound. The elusive sound that every guitarist hears in their head and wants to obtain. We buy pedals in every shape and color imaginable. Delay pedals. Distortion pedals. Fuzz pedals. Overdrive pedals.

There are processor units that blink and have hundreds if not thousands of sounds already created by pushing a single button. Now there are guitars that tune themself. Guitars that look like they belong in a sci-fi movie are bought and played because they create a different sound than the more traditional-shaped guitars like a Stratocaster.

After you buy a guitar, often it is modified or customized to fit personal taste. Some might put some stickers on the guitar or write on it to make a statement. What is this all for? Why do we put time, money and effort into all of this?

This is why.

It’s been a while and a lot has changed!

So I haven’t made a post since September! A lot has changed since then. I now know that I am going to be a Father! I can’t really completely wrap my head around this, and I am really excited to find out if the baby is going to be a boy or a girl. It’s beyond words and a bit overwhelming! I’m just THANKFUL that God is in control and He will give me guidance and comfort and peace.

Kristal is doing great and totally ready for this.  I think God knew what He was doing (imagine that) when He had the wife get pregnant and not the guy.  There is a 9 month developmental/growth time for a reason! I am much more ready now (15 1/2 weeks in) than I was when I found out right after Christmas.  I was in shock I think for at least a week or two.  Now its time to plan ahead and re-arrange like never before. This is rough because I TOTALLY don’t like re-arranging and I am stubborn with change.

I must admit with the new President in office, I am concerned about the future of our country.  Some folks are worshiping him or at least idolizing him and have basically claimed him to have the answer to all questions.  If you are looking for the answers from the President or anywhere else but Christ you WILL be disappointed.

I am praying that God’s will be done.  I am going to try my best to be  as un-political as possible, but it is impossible for me now, being a soon-to-be father, to remain silent on this issue-   I can not FATHOM why it is (ever) acceptable to use taxpayer’s dollars to support the funding of abortions.

Send your email’s to president@whitehouse.gov and let him know how you feel. Thanks.

My wife says I’m weird!

My wife has a blog where she explains how she is weird, so she asked me to do the same. I really don’t think I’m weird. I am going to try to say I am weird…but lets face it, this is just a way for Kristal to pick on me. (haha)

1. I don’t like candles at all. I think as nice as they look, they are not worth the chance of having a fire.

2. I think there are no good movies ever made with Matt Damon.

3. King of Queens is the greatest comedy of all time-period.

4. I don’t eat any seafood. It tastes fishy and gross to me.

5. I HATE onions. They smell like body odor.

6. I think Starbucks (when you first walk inside) smells like a skunk.

7. I think that the NBA has been fixing games (giving obvious calls to certain teams) ever since the 1994 playoffs and Scottie Pippen got ripped off on a terrible call where it was obvious that the Knicks lost!

Ok maybe I am weird-but hey I’m alright with that. Thats what makes me-me! 🙂

Billy Ray Cyrus’ Bass Player is in my Bible Study!

Quite the title for a post huh? This would be totally true though! A nice guy I just met in our Bible Study has played with Billy Ray for over 3 years. He’s also recorded with many country artists, such as Sara Evans. The coolest part is he works at Gibson and sells guitars to Guitar Center. He says he can line up a private tour for me at the Nashville plant and find a nice Epiphone or Gibson guitar for me!! How cool! I am very excited about our Bible Study this year-we have a great group of people in it.

Freaky Friday is entertaining?!?!

I never thought I would say it, but Freaky Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan is pretty entertaining! Is it the greatest movie ever, no. Is it fantastic, no. It is pretty decent. I am very pleasantly surprised. It is worth viewing, and both Jamie and Lindsay do a good job acting in it.

100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/20947527
This is the article from Rolling Stone listing their top 100 Greatest guitar songs of all time. I personally agree with about 1/3 of the songs on their list. I think its clear that some classic Hendrix songs like Purple Haze, Machine Gun and Voodoo Chile would be on the list.

What I am disappointed about is the lack of any AC DC songs, and from Guns N Roses the only song is Sweet Child of Mine. (Paradise city is a real rocker that I think is much better) I think a lot of the songs on the list are more obscure than what I would pick and I love U2, but is the Streets of No Name really a guitar song? Is Tom Petty’s American Girl really a guitar song?

What about Ted Nugent’s Stranglehold or Cat Scratch Fever? Not on the list. I wonder what Ted thinks about that!

Giving this thing called Twitter a try.

Well I caved. After hearing so much about Twitter over the last 6 months or so I decided to get a Twitter account. I am still getting used to it. The way I look at it, some people use twitter to tell others what they had for dinner. (Who cares…really!!) Some people put something of value on their twitter. I am trying to do that. I want my posts or tweets I think they are called to at least have something of value.

So, follow me on twitter at:www.twitter.com/jwoods123

Stone Temple Pilots are back!!!!!

The rumors are true-STP IS BACK!! Scott, Dean, Eric and Robert are back together rocking! This is huge-their sound is like no other-and is so beautifully textured-a sound that so many bands would like to replicate, but none have come close. The boys played a private show yesterday in LA. This is what rock music has been missing for the last 5 years!!!!!!!

MLB 2008 Season is here!

boysbaseball.jpg

Everyone, Baseball is here! It is time to eat some Cracker Jack and pull out the glove. It is time to watch Griffey pursue 600 homers! We will see how Torre does in L.A. with all of the Dodgers’ young talent. We will see how Girardi does as the skipper for New York. Can the Red Sox repeat? Its probably way too early to really get into who will be the champions, but the 2008 season is here and it should be a really good one!
